JOSH McLaren produced the performance of the night to beat local rival Nathan Russo at Queensberry Police ABC's tournament at the Jubilee Working Men's Club in Trent Vale.
The pair are among the most experienced on the North Staffordshire amateur scene, but this was their first meeting and had the added spice of being a 63.5kg semi-final in the Staffordshire ABA senior championships.
McLaren, from the host club, went into the contest as favourite, but Impact ABC boxer Russo has built a reputation as a tough opponent.
It was Russo who made the early running, only to find McLaren blocking most of his work.
The Queensberry boxer countered with some clean jabs and left hooks and landed a right hand to Russo's head that put him down near the end of the first round.
Russo bravely pandora beads climbed back to his feet and the bell ended McLaren's chances of stopping the contest at that stage.
Again Russo started the second round as the aggressor, but his rival was soon able to deliver some well-timed shots to have him in trouble again.
Russo knew he rolex replica was well behind on the judges' scorecards at the start of round three and made every effort to come out and secure the stoppage he needed for victory.
McLaren needed all his composure to fight off the attempted comeback and again managed to produce some scoring shots of his own as he ran down the clock.
All three judges had McLaren well ahead, one giving him a 29-14 verdict as he secured an excellent victory.
Impact did secure a measure of revenge against Queensberry when Matthew Birks gained a unanimous verdict in a welterweight contest against Matthew Wass.
Stuart Naylor, of Queensberry, impressed on his debut in a senior super-heavyweight contest, but Carl McDonald, from Aston ABC, just edged him out.
In a 63.5 kg Class C CYP Midlands final, Allissa Alom, of Birmingham City ABC, got the better of Karl McKenzie, from Graisley ABC.
The contest was keenly fought and entertaining, before becoming messy in the final stages, with Alom gaining all three judges' approval.
Queensberry had two more winners on the card, David Adamiec gaining a unanimous verdict over Droitwich's Luke Evans, while Kyle Warren achieved the same result against Martin Walton of the Aston club.
Charlie Cooke, of Queensberry, lost a majority decision to Martin Day, of the Larches & Savick club, as did Jordon Lander against Aston's Raj Talwar, while club-mate Zenith Replica Watches Jack Martin was beaten in a unanimous decision by Rudi Brown, of Stafford Town.
Liam Lockett, of Silverdale, lost out by a unanimous verdict against Taylor Smith, of Larches & Savick.
